Preforms and Overbraids

Preforms

Net shape preforms create ultimate repeatability for high speed, high volume production of parts with complex geometries. A&P can create preforms with the exact dimensions needed for your tool while maintaining fiber continuity.

Our predictive software, sophisticated braiding machinery and mandrel designs allow us to tailor reinforcements to the precise dimensions and structural requirements of a part without splicing, darting or cutting enabling the manufacture of high-performance parts with the most efficient use of fiber. Overbraiding

Both large scale overbraiding and high volume automated overbraiding performed by A&P Technology have been identified as key technologies for production of composite parts requiring high rate, high quality, low cost manufacture.

The overbraiding process replaces traditional methods of layup. During overbraiding, fibers are formed directly onto a mandrel or core and preformed into shape during fabrication. Fiber angles are precisely controlled during takeup creating a high level of part-to-part repeatability and predictability allowing our designers the ability to fine tune fiber angle and thickness along complicated cross-sections providing a net shape preform. Benefits of overbraiding include less raw material usage, less touch labor, fewer quality checks and a less error prone process.
