QISO Helps Improve Production Rates, Reduce Cost in Space Applications

Three veteran composite suppliers – Patz Materials and Technologies, Rock West Composites, and A&P Technology have partnered to develop a lower-cost, reduced-labor approach for lightweight high modulus (HM) carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) cored panels used in applications including satellite optical benches, solar array substrates, reflectors and modular building blocks for main structures.

Aerospace Prepregs with Braided Reinforcement Demonstrate Improved Production Rates, Cost

In collaboration with materials supplier Toray Advanced Composites, A&P Technology and the National Institute for Aviation Research, Joby Aviation recently conducted a time study seeking to optimize aircraft part design for high production rates, while meeting cost and sustainability targets. The project involved production of a partial wing spar and studying the manufacturing time and cost differences between two material solutions: A&P’s TX-45 continuous +/-45° braided reinforcement and Toray’s TC380/T800HB 6K traditional 0°/90° woven fabric prepreg.
